If there's a conservative Tea Party-wing in the NHL, Devils GM Lou Lamoriello is absolutely its president. You might know him as the guy who won't let his players wear jersey numbers over 30 or won't let them leave on their own terms. The Devils are such a tight ship the club's own players dubbed it The Firm in the 90s.
It appears that Lou has finally lost it -- firing his coach Peter DeBoer on Boxing Day and naming two (not Head) coaches to replace him, tag-team-style. Adam Oates will apparently be handling the forwards, while Scott Stevens runs the other side of the bench. Lamoriello himself will also be behind the bench, probably to remind the men around him that their jobs hang by a thread.
The First-Ever Fine for Diving
In a move celebrated by manly men across the sports world, the NHL handed down its first-ever fine for diving earlier this month. The genius aspect of the diving fine is that its assessed in the cold light of the ensuring days -- not during the heat of a game. This means that the Eye in the Sky will be keeping watch over serial divers and hopefully tamp down on one of the more groan-inducing elements of professional hockey.

Leafs Play 'Slipping'
On December 17, Randy Carlyle talked about the play of his team 'slipping' despite the fact that at the time they were 10-1-1 in their last 12 and coming off a 6-2 blowout of Anaheim.
Sabres' fans might have seen that as wishful thinking, but sure enough -- the Leafs have gone 1-4 since then. It makes you wonder if the Adjustment Bureau is at work here and Carlyle is powerless to stop it. Either way, it still makes for great schadenfreude.
Lucic 'Gets Even', Sort Of
Everyone knows the only thing a bully reacts to is being punched in the mouth and that's just what Milan Lucic got from Columbus tough guy Dalton Prout back in November. Of course, hockey being hockey -- Lucic had to get retribution. Prout held his own in the rematch and Lucic came off looking a little desperate. Sometimes the hockey gods giveth...
